Partnering with food entrepreneurs

Over the past year, Danone Manifesto Ventures has continued to invest in young food and beverage companies with innovative products and business models.

Expanding a promising beverage brand

In the U.S., Danone Manifesto Ventures invested in a U.S. leader in premium coconut water. Harmless Harvest markets fresh organic coconut water and beverages and is certified Fair for Life for its sustainable social, agricultural and environmental approach. “Danone Manifesto Ventures is the right partner to help us deliver on our vision of providing the world with better, healthier nutrition while advancing our sustainability and environmental agenda. This partnership will provide tremendous growth opportunities for Harmless Harvest “ Justin Guilbert and Douglas Riboud, cofounders of Harmless Harvest

Home delivery of healthy meals for kids

Yumble is on a mission to help parents shape positive and healthy eating habits for children. Its ethos is to produce and deliver seasonal, local, and organic whenever possible, and meals include a wide variety of nutrient-dense vegetables, grains, proteins, fats, herbs, and spices that support developing minds and bodies. “Danone Manifesto Ventures’ expertise, resources and passion for creating a new generation of better-for-you food brands will be tremendous assets as we scale to help more parents serve healthy food to their children." Personalized hydration at home

Mitte, a German startup, has created a smart water system that allows people to purify and enhance tap water at home in a sustainable way. It offers a selection of mineral cartridges, so individuals can personalize their water.  “We are thrilled to be supported by forward-looking partners like Danone Manifesto Ventures that understand our mission. We believe this partnership will position us to execute on our expansion plan as we benefit from our partner’s significant food and beverage expertise.” Moritz Waldstein, Mitte’s founder and Chief Executive Officer

Urban farming for local ingredients

Agricool brings an innovative model of urban farming, disrupting agricultural models by using recycled shipping containers and technology to provide locally grown and pesticide-free fruit like strawberries. It is a great fit with Danone which is constantly looking for new ways to reduce its carbon footprint while sourcing healthy ingredients that meet the highest quality standards. “We are excited to count Danone Manifesto Ventures among our investors. They will bring us the experience of a leading food company while supporting us in many aspects of our growth agenda.” Guillaume Fourdinier, Agricool cofounder and CEO.

SUPPORTING INNOVATIVE FOOD AND HEALTH CONCEPTS

Danone is one of several partners supporting innovation in health, nutrition and emerging science like microbiome through the Health for Life Capital (HFLC) investment fund. HFLC is a €160 million fund that since 2014 has invested in 20 companies working in areas from innovative plant-based ingredients, digital nutritional advice to microbiome-based solutions for allergy prevention and treatment in children.

Nurturing new approaches

Danone is a co-founding member of MISTA, an innovation platform based in San Francisco, that helps a network of food industry startups to optimize projects ranging from alternative protein, health and well-being services to biotechnology.

Stimulating FoodTech startups

We continue our open innovation approach by partnering with Startupbootcamp FoodTech to support new ideas for transforming the food industry. Following three months of project acceleration, seven young startups joined us in November for a Demo Day at Station F in Paris, the world’s largest startup campus, to pitch ideas to investors, food company leaders and experts.
